Mexico American Travel Journalist Convention
Guadalajara, Jalisco October 2009- Guadalajara played host to this year’s Society of American Travel Writers’ (SATW) 54th annual convention. SATW is an international nonprofit organization comprised of over 20,000 of the most distinguished journalists in the tourism sector from Canada, United States and Mexico. SATW members are held to the highest level of ethical and responsible journalism and the designation of Guadalajara as a venue for this Convention deserves recognition. Mexico was granted this honor by the organization after competing with other countries such as Ecuador, Chile and Canada.
Mexico Tourism Board officials welcomed guests and thanked the guild for their ongoing efforts to promote Mexico. Eduardo Chaillo, Director of the Mexico Tourism Board Strategic Business Unit in the U.S. and Canada, spoke about the difficult times Mexico has experienced this year and reassured that travel to Mexico is back up and running thanks to associations such as the SATW, that have aided in the country’s recovery.
He also pointed out the importance of SATW members having chosen Mexico, specifically Guadalajara, for their 54th annual meeting. “The richness of this city along with its infrastructure makes Guadalajara one of our top destinations for meetings and conventions. Mexico has evolved dramatically in the last ten years as a destination for the meetings market and this is thanks to all the combined efforts,” said Chaillo.
SATW attendees will be able to explore the wonders of Mexico after the conference, with post trips to Manzanillo, Puerto Vallarta, San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato and Zacatecas, just to name a few.
