Denver ranks No. 21 among domestic destinations that travel agents say they’re booking for 2010, according to a new survey from the Travel Leaders travel-agency network. Denver slipped two notches from its No. 19 ranking a year ago. Denver ranked as low as No. 23 on the list in 2005, improved to No. 19 in 2006, and in 2007 and 2008 occupied the No. 21 spot.

As for other Colorado locations, Vail ranks No. 37 in the latest survey and Breckenridge No. 39.

The survey by Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Travel Leaders — which was formerly called Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates — relies on the opinions of 521 of the company’s agents, managers and owners surveyed Nov. 30-Dec. 18. They were asked to list the five top domestic destinations they’re booking for this year.

In the Denver metro area, those surveyed ranked the top domestic destinations of 2010 as Orlando, Fla.; Anaheim/Orange County, Calif.; Alaska (for cruises); Maui; Hawaii; and Las Vegas.

As for international destinations, those surveyed in the Denver area ranked the Carribbean (for cruises) and the Riviera Maya, Mexico, in a tie for No. 1, and Cozumel, Mexico, and Rome in a tie for No. 3.

Nationwide, Orlando and Las Vegas traded places atop the list, with Orlando now at No. 1 and Las Vegas at No. 2. As for international destinations, the top 10 in the nationwide survey are the Caribbean (for cruises); Cancun and Riviera Maya.

Asked about their level of bookings, 43 percent of agents surveyed said their bookings for 2010 are down from last year, while 14 percent said bookings are up.
