The Bahias de Huatulco Mexico Ecotourism
Where is the last hidden secret on Mexico's Golden Pacific Coast? This is it! Bahias de Huatulco is the most recent tourist destination to be developed by the Mexican Government, and it is truly the jewel of this spectacular coast. It would be difficult, if not impossible, for the good folks in Mexico's tourism department to find a better destination to showcase the beauty and spirit of their country than the incredible 22 miles of bays at Huatulco.
Verdant jungles crawl out of the hills to mesh with the spectacular white sand beaches and clear protected coves for miles in all directions. The weather is warm, the sky is clear, and the Pacific Ocean is deliciously warm all year long. Huatulco seems to have everything you might expect in a popular tropical destination...except crowds. And as soon as the world discovers this seaside secret, the crowds won't be far behind. But for now, you'll have much of this stretch of paradise to yourself.
Because Huatulco is a relatively new destination, most of the hotels and infrastructure are new as well. Huatulco has the added advantage of having learned from the development mistakes of earlier planned resorts. And the brand new hotels that are still on the drawing board will be some of the best available, making Huatulco one of the newest and nicest resort destinations on the planet.
Keeping an eye on the future, and in an effort to make Huatulco more of an eco-friendly destination, the Mexican government has set aside 40,000 of the 52,000 acres in the area as an ecological reserve. As an added step, environmental groups are keeping a close watch on Huatulco and it's tourism progress. With slow development and careful planning, the likelihood is high that Huatulco will be a model for future resort developments in other parts of Mexico and the world.
If you like beaches and watersports, you'll love Huatulco. Most of the beaches are located in beautiful bays and are protected from the ocean swells. Sunning, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing await visitors at ever turn. Of course, there's nothing wrong with relaxing poolside with a cold drink for a few hours or days either!
Huatulco is quite removed from the pace often experienced at Mexican resorts. There are no timeshare vendors trying to give you a free breakfast, no wet T-shirt contests or Spring Break parties, and if you are dancing until 3:00 in the morning you are probably dancing with yourself. Looking for an exciting destination that will give you well-earned bragging rights at the next social event back home? Huatulco, and the friendly people of the state of Oaxaca, are the answer.
