The island of Cozumel, Mexico’s and the western Caribbean’s top cruise port, will celebrate its first cruise ship arrivals after Hurricane Wilma with a festival Nov. 14 to 19.

According to Cozumel’s division of tourism, a total of 14 passenger cruise ships will dock in Cozumel’s port this week:

Monday, Nov. 14: Carnival Cruise Lines’ Triumph and Celebrity Cruise Lines’ Galaxy
Tuesday, Nov. 15: Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Norwegian Dream and Norwegian Sun, Princess Cruises’ Star Princess and Royal Caribbean International’s Jewel of the Seas
Wednesday, Nov. 16: Carnival Cruise Lines’ Miracle, Celebrity Cruise Lines’ Zenith, Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Majesty and Princess Cruise Lines’ Coral Princess
Thursday, Nov. 17: Royal Caribbean International’s Legend of the Seas
Friday, Nov. 18: Carnival Cruise Lines’ Conquest and Royal Caribbean International’s Rhapsody of the Seas
Saturday, Nov. 19: Royal Caribbean International’s Enchantment of the Seas

Cozumel will welcome its guests with the Festival del Mar Caribe, or Caribbean Sea Festival, a fiesta from Nov. 14 to 19 featuring cultural music, dance performances, local artisans, roving mariachi bands and street vendors. Cruise passengers will also receive a personal welcome letter from Cozumel mayor Gustavo Ortega.

Cozumel’s port reopening is part of a development plan involving public and private sector collaboration designed to bring the island’s urban and ecological areas back to their former luster, said Mexico Tourism Secretariat Rodolfo Elizondo.

With 24 ports, Mexico is the number one cruise destination in the world. The nearby cruise ports of Progreso in Yucatan State and Costa Maya in Quintana Roo State were unaffected by the passage of Wilma.
