Colonial Taxco Mexico Travel National Silver Fair
Mexico Travel and Vacations - Located between Acapulco and Mexico City, at the foot of Sierra Madre del Sur, you can find the city of Taxco, a historically recognized mining site globally known for its silver resources that once attracted the Spanish conquistadores. Apart from its silver resources, Taxco also offers the enchantment of its colonial atmosphere, its red tile rooftops, its vibrant pavement roads, and the impressive Santa Prisca Cathedral, built in the middle XVIII century.
Each year, during the last week of November, Taxco has a National Silver Fair, where the best silversmiths of the country show the public their masterpieces.
Taxco preserves properties of great historic and artistic value, amongst them, one that belonged to Jose de la Borda, which today serves as the Municipal Palace, and that together with the Santa Prisca Cathedral it forms the heart of the city. You will also find the House of Tears, named in remembrance of the pain and suffering of its builders, just like The House of the Balcony, named after its distinguished balcony.
Along the road of San Agustin there are more than 20 silver craft shops with jewelry and decoration that reflects the town’s pre-Hispanic spirit. The festivities of Taxco, as well as its food, and silver crafts are one of a kind.
Without a doubt, the cultural and historic richness that Taxco has conserved throughout the centuries represents a fresh and unique alternative for every visitor.
