Mexico Travel by Canadian Tourist
According to statistics just released by Statistics Canada the country’s official source for Canadian social and economic statistics, Canadians made of Mexico their favorite overseas destination in 2006, surpassing destinations such as United Kingdom as the most visited country after the United States. According to the report Canadians traveled in record numbers at an estimated 842,000 overnight visits to Mexico in 2006, up 6.0% from 2005.
Based on recent information from Mexico’s Migration Integral System (SIOM), the top Mexican destinations with the most arrivals reported by Canadians included Cancun and Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Mexico City and Mazatlan. For the past few years, Mexico has steadily remained among Canada’s top overseas destination of choice. Recent figures by SIOM reported more than 529,900 Canadians visiting Mexico in the period of January to April of this year, an increase of nearly 33% compared with 398,600 in the same period in 2006.
