New US Passport Cards for Border Crossing
Driving Los Angeles to San Ysidro Tijuana Border Crossing - The U.S. State Department has unveiled a new type of passport for U.S. residents that they say will make it easier and more convenient for residents coming back into the U.S., after traveling from Mexico and Canada.
Officials unveiled the credit card-sized passport card in San Diego, California. Officials say the card is easier to carry, less expensive, and significantly more durable than the standard passports Americans are issued. The card is only to be used for people traveling back from Mexico and Canada - not for international travel.
Starting June 1st 2009 all travelers will be required to present a single document that has citizenship and identity information when coming into the United States through land or sea borders.
