The City of Oaxaca Mexico Lunes de Cerro

Oaxaca Mexico - In 1932, the city of Oaxaca celebrated the 400 anniversary of its designation as a royal city and part of the festivities for Lunes del Cerro (Mondays on the Hill), were organized in what would be the preamble of the modern Guelaguetza. At Cerro del Fortín, a hill overlooking central Oaxaca, ethnic groups from the seven traditional regions: los Valles Centrales, la Sierra Juárez, la Cañada, Tuxtepec, la Mixteca, la Costa and Istmo de Tehuantepec, are all represented.
