You can also enjoy a day trip to Canon de la Huasteca, a 300m deep canyon with dramatic rock formations, as well as cliffside drawings, evidence of its prehistoric inhabitants. Another weekend favorite for locals is the Cascada Cola de Caballo (Horsetail Falls), where upon arrival to the village of El Cercado you can hire a horse or donkey for the last kilometer to the falls, where swimming and hiking are the primary activities.
