The City of Campeche Mexico
The City of Campeche MexicoThe City of Campeche Mexico - Campeche is the only city in Mexico which has conserved the remains of a wall that used to protect the population from the pirate attacks between the 17th and 18th centuries. This colonial construction shields the historical centre of the city which was declared as World Heritage by the UNESCO in 1999.

The historical center of Campeche, declared as World Heritage by the UNESCO in 1999, is surrounded by a great stone wall. This wall, which has been reconstructed almost entirely, used to protect the citizens from constant pirate attacks that were rather habitual during the 17th and 18th centuries. The pirates would surprise the town and empty it from its valuables and treasures; an activity in which especially the French pirate Laurent de Graff and the Englishman Henry Morgan gained both a rather dreadful reputation.

Visit Campeche Yucatan Peninsula

Visit Campeche Yucatan PeninsulaCampeche Yucatan Peninsula - Campeche located in the Yucatan Peninsula, and is the least visited of the 3 Yucatan states. 40% of the state is covered in jungle. Campeche is great for adventure seekers, teachers, seniors and for travellers looking for unique experiences like archaeology, birdwatching and botany.

Campeche City is a historic fortified city and an UNESCO World Heritage Site; the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, another UNESCO site, offers 1.5 million acres of wildlife-watching. There are Mayan archaeological treasures from all eras of the civilization, and with much less foot traffic than more well-known sites in Mexico, providing an unspoiled, less ‘touristy’ experience.

One will find restored haciendas, two Starwood “Luxury Collection” hotels (Puerta Campeche and Hacienda Uayamon), gourmet dining, the availability of world-class guayaberas (traditional shirts) and Panama-style hats, plus private escorted tours available in the city-state.

Campeche Mexico Adventure Tour

Campeche Mexico Adventure TourCampeche, Mexico Adventure Tour March 13 - 17, 2010

We now have a new travel opportunity for you: Campeche, Mexico. If you haven't heard of Campeche before it's okay, not many Americans have. Campeche is located in the southeast of Mexico, in the Yucatan Peninsula. It is surrounded by the pristine blue waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Visit the web site at www.tourcampeche.com to see the beauty that Campeche holds.

The City of San Francisco de Campeche, the state's capitol, was originally an old Mayan trading port. Spanish Conquistadors came to Campeche in 1517. Pirates attacked the city on a regular basis, until 1668 when Campeche was fortified with a city wall ten (10) feet thick.

Wealthy merchants and traders built stunningly beautiful houses and haciendas; today hundreds of these have been carefully restored to their former glory and repainted with the original soft pastel colors used in the past. In 1999, UNESCO declared Campeche a World Heritage Site.
