Chichen Itza Shopping and NighlifeOutside of the archaeological zone you’ll find a crafts market and numerous stands offering all kinds of souvenirs, including hats and curious figurines of ancient Mayan gods. In the nearby town of Valladolid, which lies 45 km (28 mi) east of Chichen Itza, artisans in the main plaza and various shops sell tablecloths, cloth napkins and huipiles (traditional Mayan dresses).

Chichen Itza offers a wonderful light and sound show that is a truly unique experience for visitors. As you sit in front of the archaeological zone’s temples, you can enjoy the stars and magic of the night while learning more about Mayan culture and the various structures. This is a must-see show.

Light and Sound Show – This show takes place at the Chichen Itza archaeological site. It narrates the founding and splendor of the ancient city and chronicles the wars that were carried out against other Mayan people, which ultimately led to the demise of Chichen Itza. The show begins at 8:00 pm throughout the year, except during the rainy season.

In Valladolid, 28 miles east of Chichen Itza, you’ll find several places to enjoy a night out, ranging from small cafes, the ideal spots for chatting with friends, to a wide array of bars and restaurants, where the parties rage until the wee hours of the morning.
