Mountain Climbing in Veracruz - In the surrounding areas of Veracruz you’ll find Mexico’s highest mountain, which is a strong draw for mountain climbers.
The "Pico de Orizaba National Park" is 56 miles west of Veracruz, off Highway 150. This national park covers 19,750 hectares (48,782 acres) and has the highest mountain in Mexico. This is a perfect place for intermediate and advanced mountain climbers. It has an altitude of 5,747 meters (18,965 feet) above sea level. Here you’ll find lodgings, which also serve as departure points. The more adventurous climbers attempt to reach the volcano’s snow-capped rim.
Mountain Biking in Veracruz - There are two places near Veracruz where you’ll find ideal conditions for mountain bike riding, as they offer trails lined with lush vegetation. If mountain biking isn’t your thing, you can take an all-terrain vehicle out on sand dunes.
Playa Chachalacas is 31 miles north of Veracruz, this long beach of fine sand and calm waters is ideal for doing all kinds of aquatic sports. Here you can ride an all-terrain vehicle across extensive sand dunes on the beach’s northern end. Rentals are only available on weekends and vacation periods.
Jalcomulco is 89 miles NW of Veracruz and 24 miles from Xalapa; lies near the Pescados River. At this place you can go mountain bike riding down sloped trails while observing the diverse flora and fauna. |
