Hiking Trails and Mountain Biking in Xapala Veracruz
Jalcomulco is located 24 miles southeast of Xalapa. This place offers various natural attractions, such as the mouth of the Pescados (or Antiguo) River. At this spot you’ll find long downhill paths that cut through diverse ecosystems.
The Cofre de Perote National Park is 31 miles west of Xalapa, off Highway 140. This is one of the most visited nature areas in the state of Veracruz. It covers an area of 28,899 acres, which consists mostly of forested mountains. In the park’s surrounding areas you can go mountain biking through the nearby towns of Conejo and Tembladeras. Also close is Valle de Aragon Ecological Park, which offers biking routes of varying difficulty grades.
Artisans and Handcrafts from Xalapa make beautiful hand blown glass objects, ceramics and pottery, as well as gorgeous oil paintings and rustic furniture made of pinewood and bamboo. You’ll also find embroidered textiles, candles, flower arrangements and many other items in the city’s marketplaces, such as the Mercado Jauregui. Another good option is the Casa de las Artesanias, on Zamora Street, in the Los Lagos area.
