It's Not A State Fair
No it’s not a state fair, but it sure looks like one. It’s the annual cattlemen’s show, and it’s big.
Stock shows and auctions, association meetings and social events, and good old-fashioned standing around...
shooting the bull (sorry, I couldn’t resist). Craft booths with the region’s best crafts. Also, a carnival, one you can see from block away—it’s big rides stand high above the trees.
And our favorite, the performances. The biggest names in music come to our “state fair.” In the time we’ve been here Vicente Fernandez, Ana Gabriel, and Rocio Ducal and more and more. (I mention Rocio with sadness. She succumbed to cancer almost a year ago now.)
For Veracruz, it’s the show of shows. It’s great for business, and it’s great fun for the locals. Some of our staff and students will head that way later this morning. It’s a great spot for practicing Spanish and enjoying the culture. But that’s not why they’re going. They’re going because it’s good old clean fun.
